There are two ways to handle this in Horizon.

  1. Use the damaged status at cki
    1. With the CKI window open
    2. Click on the CKI menu item at the top of the screen
    3. Click on "Damaged Mode" - Red text will display on your screen to remind you that you are in the damaged mode.
    4. CKI all the items

  2. Use the new "Q" Quarantined status
    1. Check the item in as usual to clear off the patron card
    2. Open the Item Group Editor
    3. Click on Barcode
    4. Check append list
    5. Scan all the items to be moved to this new status
    6. Click on Cancel to close the search window
    7. Select all of the items
    8. Click on Edit
    9. Click on OK  to make a batch change
    10. Change to status to "Q"
    11. Click on Save and Close

Neither the "dmg" or "q" status can be requested or appear on pull list to fill holds.  "Q" gives you a more clear understanding of why the item is set aside and not available for patron use.

The Item Group Editor Report can also be used later to see how long items have had that status by running this report:

  1. Open Item Group Editor
  2. Scroll down and select Location
  3. Type your location code in the "Search For" box
  4. Click on AND
  5. Scroll down and select Status
  6. type dmg or q in the search for box (only one status per report)
  7. Click on Search
  8. The report will display the information you need and you can click on "Sort" to put it in a more usable order.

Regardless of which method you use, when the items no longer need to be quarantined, they will need to be CKI to clear them back to an "i" status and be avalailable to fill requests again.

If you choose to use the "Damaged Mode", now may be a good time to review your items with that status and decide if they can be withdrawn.  Many have had a Damaged status for several years.  Here is a current list of items with damaged status, with a tab for each library - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w4loq3GVtA9CnaW5KK5Oy8cwa3vKBACa/view?usp=sharing
