Socket Mobile Command Barcode Sheet

QUESTION:

Where do I find the Socket Mobile command barcode sheet?

ANSWER:

The URL contains the command sheet for the 7ci scanner.

https://www.socketmobile.com/docs/default-source/series-7/command-barcode-sheet-2d.pdf(link is external)

On page 55, there is a command barcode for Codabar Any length.  If you're having problems scanning Codabar barcode, scan the command barcode for "Codabar Any length" on page 55. Your scanner will not beep when scanning this command barcode, however you should see the red beam blink off over the barcode indicating a successful scan.

With Codabar barcodes they typically include start and stop charcaters of a and b. If you would like these removed as well than please scan Enable Notis Editing on page 56. Just like the other command barcodes, you will not hear a beep.

SocketMobile scanner – won’t scan into MobileCirc

If you think your scanner is already paired with your iPad but you still can’t scan barcodes in MobileCirc, try this:

  • open a Safari window on the iPad, then go to google.com.  You just want to get a search box up.  Once the google search box is up, trying scanning a barcode into it.  If the library barcode DOES scan into google, then there’s likely a problem with Mobilecirc.
  • if the library barcode will not scan into google either, try scanning a UPC code, like one on the back of a bottle or box.  If that barcode will scan (but the library barcode wouldn’t), then you need to enable the symbology that is specific to the library’s barcodes.  The Socket Mobile command barcode sheet can be found here:

http://www.socketmobile.com/docs/default-source/series-7/chs-1d-imager-command-barcodes-sheet.pdf?sfvrsn=10

  • If the scanner won’t scan even a UPC code into google, then it’s either being overridden by the camera or it’s not paired or it’s defective.   Even if you’re pretty sure the camera isn’t the problem and the scanner is properly paired, it’s a good idea to go over these steps.

How to turn off the camera for MobileCirc (you'll still be able to use it in other applications):

  1. Go to the iPad’s Settings by double-clicking the physical Home button twice
  2. Click the "Setting" app
  3. Choose "Privacy"
  4. Choose "Camera"
  5. You’ll see an entry for MobileCirc.  Slide the toggle switch to the left so that it changes from green to white
  6. Restart your MobileCirc application

How to unpair and re-pair the scanner with the iPad.

Another possibility is that the scanner is already paired with your (or someone else's) phone.  Try de-pairing the scanner and then re-pairing it to your iPad. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn the scanner on by pressing the little round button in the middle of its back until the LED turns blue and the scanner beeps twice.
  2. Hold both the big scanning button and the little power button down for about three seconds until you hear three descending-tone beeps.  After you hear 3 beeps, release both buttons.
  3. Click the power button again.  The blue light should blink, telling you it's in pairing mode.
  4. Go to your iPad's settings > Bluetooth.  Make sure Bluetooth is turned “On.” A Bluetooth Devices search will begin.
  5. Find the Socket Mobile scanner listing; click on it and wait a few seconds.  It should pair up.  That is, the status should change to “connected” and the scanner’s LED light will blink every 3 seconds indicating it is connected.
The scanner and device should be ready to scan barcodes.

This very short YouTube video goes over that same information:

If your camera is off, your scanner is paired and it still won’t scan into google, you may need to contact Socket support.

Tips for scanning barcodes: Hold the scanner about 4 inches from the barcode and press and hold the trigger button. Make sure the red beam covers the entire width of the barcode. The scanner will beep and vibrate and the LED will flash Green to confirm the barcode was read and sent to the device.
To use the keyboard to add data to a field, quickly double-press the power button of the scanner to open or close the onscreen keyboard.

Note : if when you scan your barcodes they put an A at the beginning and end of the barcode, go to your manual’s Command Barcodes page and scan the "Data as is - No Prefix or Suffix" barcode. That should take care of the problem. If you don't have a printed manual, you should be able to get one online.
